Founded by Thomas A. Farrell and several of his brothers in 1933, we are a third-generation Vermont family business with a strong commitment to serving our customers, our employees and our community. Thomas A. Farrell and several of his brothers started a distributing business in a small warehouse on Pine Street in Burlington. Originally called M. M. Farrell & Sons.
Our roots run deep. In fact, we were the first licensed distributor in Vermont after Prohibition. Throughout our long history, we have always believed in giving back to our community and partnering with local organizations to help those in need. This is a commitment shared by everyone who works here, fueled by a connection to Vermont and the desire to be good stewards of our state.
The company later moved to East Allen Street in Winooski and from there to a new office and warehouse on Holmes Road in South Burlington in 1980. Farrell Distributing eventually expanded to open facilities in Montpelier and Rutland, Vermont. The Montpelier facility merged with the South Burlington operation in 2000. On November 30th, 2015 we welcomed 60+ new employees as part of the Brand Distribution Agreement between Farrell and g.housen of Vermont. With this deal, quality, service and community continues to be the retail focus, vision and commitment for Farrell’s entire portfolio across all segments. May 2016 also saw a completion of a major construction project here at our South Burlington facility increasing our overall square footage, controlled environment, and office space.
We provide high-quality beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages for a diverse group of retailers throughout the state, operating out of facilities in South Burlington and Rutland. With our large workforce, we are equally equipped to cater to the needs of different types of retailers – from national corporations, to large and small independent stores, to fine dining establishments. We are pleased to be able to bring variety, value and choice to our customers, regardless of their location.
The strength of our organization is the incredible community of people we have. More than 300 people work for Farrell Distributing. On going training is important to this team and we take pride in our staff being the best educated in the field. Currently our Sales, Brand and Marketing teams collectively make up 75+ CICERONE Certified Beer Servers, 8 Certified Specialists Of Wine, & 6 WSET Certified wine professionals with full time beer, cider and wine trainers.
