The holidays are over and it’s a new year, which of course means we’re all looking very closely at our budgets. During the month of January we’ll be digging through our wine portfolio to find the best value wines we have to offer. These wines offer a whole lotta quality but with a small price tag.

We hope you enjoy these selections!

Santa Barbara
Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi
Verdicchio, also known as Trebbiano di Soave, has been cultivated in the Marche for many centuries. It is capable of making vibrantly fresh and crisp white wines that are a wonderful accompaniment to seafood. The Riserva bottlings can age gracefully. From Azienda Santa Barbara we have a wine in the former camp. During a recent tasting trip in the Marche, this stainless steel tank vinified Verdicchio was one of the stars among many, many wines tasted. The perfume is entrancing—at once fresh and rounded, and typical of the grape. There is absolutely no pretension. Pure Verdicchio, vinified and aged with no makeup, with a bit of prickly CO2 left in the bottle to keep it sprightly. Owner Stefano Antonucci has a three-decade track record of creating benchmark wines from the Marche and we are excited to bring our clients this Verdicchio.
Chateau d’Oupia
VDP de l’Herault “Les Heretiques”
A blend of 90% old vine Carignan (some date back almost 100 years) with 10% Syrah. This is a bold, bright wine with clean flavors of cherries, spice and plums.  The wine is noteworthy for the label alone, a celestial map of the night sky. The name, Les Heretiques, is an homage to the Cathars, a pacifist Christian group that were massacred in Minervois in 1208.
Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages
Strong red purple color. Fresh red fruits on the nose with a hint of dark cherry. Slightly spicy with a touch of grey pepper, liquorice and a touch of rose flower. The whole wine is very well balanced with a nice acidity.

Kermit Lynch
Languedoc Rouge
This wine deftly balances freshness and length, bursting with juicy red fruits and a long, pure finish.

Few Accolade Mentions

Tua Rita
Redigaffi Toscana IGT 2008
Wine Advocate – 96
“The 2008 Redigaffi is impeccable in its elegance and polish. Dark cherries, licorice, espresso and mocha meld together beautifully in this textured, fleshy wine. Despite its sophisticated personality, there is plenty of tannin lurking underneath to provide support. This is a beautifully round, opulent, yet impeccably balanced wine of the highest level. Smoke, minerals, licorice and tar wrap around the intense finish. Redigaffi remains a unique and powerful expression of Merlot from the Tuscan coast.” — 08/31/2011

Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 2015

Complex aromas of creamy oak, mocha, gravel and dark berry combine for a dense, rich and concentrated effort that’s firmly tannic, with a seam of elegance. Drink now through 2030. 18,635 cases made.—James Laube
