Over the last few years CBD, the non-psychoactive element of the hemp plant has become an increasingly recognized supplement by regulators, suppliers, consumers and retailers alike. It is associated with a wide range of benefits as an alternative to pharmaceuticals.

Farrell Distributing has monitored this evolving category as regulators, consumers, and our retail partners have come to accept it. As members of the regulated alcohol industry we see similarities in in the way this category is being adopted from a public policy and public opinion perspective. Within our current portfolio we already represent three brands of non-alcoholic beverages that have CBD infused as a supplement.

We feel it is important to communicate our position regarding this segment and the brands that we represent in it. While we only carry three brands today, and only in the form of beverages, clearly that number will rise as our supplier network responds to consumer and retailer acceptance of the category. Two of our current suppliers of CBD beverages (TreTap and Upstate Elevator Supply Co.) have adjacent CBD businesses presenting CBD to consumers in a variety of forms including, tinctures, edibles, salves, ointments, and many more. Several of our retailers have asked us to consider entering this space as trusted partners.

We have recently decided to move forward and represent not only beverages that contain CBD, but also other CBD products that are not beverages. We are doing so after careful consideration and consultation with legal and regulatory advisors.

It is extremely important that our employees and retailers know how we are approaching this segment from a policy and safety perspective. This space is already laden with products that have poor quality, are inadequately tested, or that misrepresent the product in any number of ways. It is our goal to give confidence to our retail customers regarding regulatory compliance and the significant investment in their inventory.

To protect ourselves, our retail partners, and ultimately consumers, we will adhere to strict guidelines with any CBD products we represent including the following.

All products will be tested not only vertically by the supplier, but also by an independent lab to validate that they meet FDA standards and guidelines.
Testing will include multiple panels to indicate not only any THC levels, but also any other harmful plant elements such as metals or pesticides.
No products will make any medical or health claims or be represented as a cure for any specific ailments.
All hemp used will be sourced domestically where the chain of custody can be guaranteed.
We cannot overly stress the importance of these guidelines. We believe these products merit the same attention as regulated alcohol to ensure the safety and the quality of ingredients.
